The Creation Story of Las Ramonas: Via the light of moon goddess warrior Coyolxauhqui, a prophecy was fortold 513 years ago to a young weaver named Pocha-hontas (the mother of all Pochas) who, inspired, weaved the prophetic statement into an intricate huipil. This huipil, lost for the last 500 years, was found one day while 3 mujeres were bargain shopping at a thrift store. Gazing at their amazing find, the weaved prophecy revealed itself stating: “Ey! Relax; stop taking yourself and this story so seriously.” These Xicanas pondered, meditated, and finally responded, “…Oh, Okay.” Thus! Las Ramonas were born, comprised of Marisol L. These fierce multi-media artists, performers, artivists, and teatristas have independently created, performed, and taught teatro in Los Angeles and beyond for more than 10 years. The Xicana comedy trio first came together for International Women’s Day 2007 to explore, create, share, and provoke a Xicanista critique through the medicina of carcajadas. They are LA’s newest all-Xicana theater troupe, utilizing music, dance, video, satire, parody, and all tools at their reach (including handsaws, shoulder pads, tongs and chihuahuas) to prompt laughter and inspire socio-political conscious thought in their communities and throughout the world-world-world…(insert echo here)
